Synopsis:
Wong Cho Sey ( Nadia Chan ) grew up in a fishing village. She and her lover Zhen Ngau （Lam Li） eloped when she was forced to marry a dying old man. However, on the way to Shang Hai, an accident occurred and Zhen Ngau was presumed dead.

Cho Sey arrived in the modern city of Shang Hai and met Li Xiu Chui (Chen Piu San). Together they lived in a balcony full of other residents including Lady Li（Lo Yun Yan）and Chiu Xiu Kei（Mo Zhen Yan）. She later met and fell inlove with a young painter To Ji Fung ( Ekin Cheng ). Things became complicated when she found out that Ji Fung is actually the son of a rich business man and when Zhen Ngau returns unexpectedly.

Cho Sey initially made a living from singing folk songs on the streets of Shang Hai but eventually rose to fame.

Interesting Facts

* It is said this is the first series that Ekin Cheng is casted as the male lead.
* This is also the first series that Ekin Cheng and Nadia Chan are paired up together. It is because of this series that triggered the next 7 dramas with them casted as a couple.
